Abstract

Chapra writing briefly defines falā as the primary goal of human development. The wealth that has been formulated by conventional economics is not enough to realize real well-being, because it still requires non-material content that can be filled by maqāṣid syarīʿah. To fill this space, maqāṣid syarīʿah is based on human needs which are always evolving and are classified into three hierarchies ḍarūriyyāt, ḥājiyyāt, and taḥsīniyyāt. Ḍarūriyyāt is the main feature while the last two are the supports which consist of several layers. This support can be either dependent or interdependent in terms of its relationship with the support under one other main feature. The calculation methods that can be used, and are common, are the achievement approach and the reduction deprivation approach.
